The show began with the usual dancer, host, and judge introductions. Adam Shankman was the guest judge for this evening.
Lacey and Kameron started things out with a hustle routine. Their moves looked fine here. Something that we may not have known about Kameron is that he is a daredevil. Lacey has been a hair model. Their showmanship was great, and according to Mary, it was the first true hustle to be on the show. There was some talk on the panel about Lacey outshining Kameron, however.
Cedric and Shauna were up next with the mambo, which comes from Cuba and Puerto Rico. Shauna has been snowboarding since she was a child, while Cedric used to be the mascot at his high school. For the first part of the dance, it seemed Shauna was doing most of the work, but when they were dancing side by side, Cedric definitely held up his end of the deal. The judges seemed to like it too, and for the first time, Mary actually wants Cedric to stay on the show.
Anya and Danny drew a contemporary routine. Anya, who used to be blond, and is an international lawyer, and Danny, who has an obsession with sunglasses, danced their routine very well and conveyed the emotion called for. While Adam thinks Danny is one of the most beautiful male dancers, Nigel thinks he needs to find the “x factor.” The panel seemed unanimously impressed with Anya.
Sara and Pasha made their debut on the show. Both lost their respective partners last week, and as if this was not enough, they drew a West Coast Swing, not an easy dance form. The choreography was difficult, but the pair seemed to pull it off, making it look easy. In their spare time, Sara likes to figure skate and skated competitively until junior high. Pasha is computer crazy. The panel liked the routine and the showmanship.
It was a hip hop routine for Sabra and Dominick. Sabra was in High School Musical as a backup dancer. Dominick has a secret crush on someone on the show: Cat! Adam thought hip-hop had a nice breakthrough, and the rest of the panel seemed to enjoy the performance also. Nigel lamented that it was over so soon.
Although she was not good at it, Jaimie wanted to play basketball. Hok enjoys the violin in his downtime, although he does not play as much as he used to. This pair performed the waltz. While the panel felt that Jaimie was very beautiful in this performance, they felt Hok was out of his element, although he supported his partner beautifully.
Lastly were Lauren and Neil. Lauren has an alter ego that she calls “Misha” and has even entered competitions under that name. Neil does a fair impression of Chewbacca from Star Wars. This pair drew a jazz routine, but the choreography looked more contemporary to us. Neil surprised the panel by pulling off the part of the villain, while Lauren played the heroine. We were surprised at Neil’s portrayal also, as he does not come across as dark and villainous to us.
