Shane Sparks, famed hip-hop choreographer and celebrity judge from”America’s Best Dance Crew” and “So You Think You Can Dance” showed the 68 Knicks City Dancer semi-finalists some moves last night. He taught them a hard-core hip hop routine and the women competed to make it to the next round. Then 30 dancers were selected to move on to KCD Training Camp (July 7-9). At the end of camp, 17 dancers and 5 finalists will be selected for an online vote to win the 18th spot on the team, which will be unveiled at the July 10 Team Announcement Event at The Hill. Hundreds of dancers showed up at Madison Square Garden to show their stuff and try to land a spot on the 2009-2010 Knicks City Dancers yesterday.Only a few dozen were chosen to move to the semi-finalist round and they will be dancing their hardest today. After a group performance that looks to be nothing more than an orgy and/or a strip joint with a leak, tonight’s show opens with a moving speech by Nigel regarding the deaths of Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson over the past few days.
 
After that, FIVE couples are brought to the stage at once. This seems out of the ordinary, but okay. Let’s dispense with the results, shall we?
 
Asuka and Vitolio- bottom three. Rightfully so. Janette and Brandon- safe. Maybe not deservedly, but okay. Randi and Evan- safe. Jeanine and Phillip- safe. Melissa and Ade- safe.

Welcome to the top 16. Tonight we’re joined by judges Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and Toni Basil. Joy.
 
The first couple up this evening is Carla and Jonathan, dancing hip hop. It’s decent, but it’s not very believable- they lack that “hip hop” attitude. Jonathan’s flip is pretty good, but other than that there’s really nothing memorable about this. Not good for people in the first position. Our rating: 7/10
 
Next up are Asuka and Vitolio with a jazz routine. And, holy crap… it’s bad. It’s like watching two people who are painfully bored with what they’re doing. There’s very little standout choreography, and even less energy. We are not impressed at all. Our rating: 5/10
 
Melissa and Ade are dancing rumba tonight. As they begin, we find ourselves thinking they’re the most promising couple so far tonight. And it turns out we’re right. This is amazing! Everything is good- the choreography, the execution, the chemistry, the performance. We love it! Our rating: 10/10

The Knicks City Dancers are officially holding open auditions for anyone that has what it takes to rock the floor at Madison Square Garden.

Courtney Galiano, former Knicks City Dancer and “So You Think You Can Dance” contestant, will be sitting next to Shane Sparks, choreographer and judge on “SYTYCD” at the auditions. They will be watching the talent that will fight for a spot on the Knicks City Dancers squad.

Think you’re good enough? Show up ready to go on Sunday, June 28th @ Madison Square Garden!

Two more dancers will be sent home at the end of tonight’s show. For the first time in five seasons, there’s really no one we’re like to see leave. Everyone is so good this season! 
Someone apparently spoke to Cat about her horrible wardrobe last night, because for once she actually looks very nice tonight.
 
The group performance tonight was choreographed by Mia Michaels. Despite the obvious lack of camera time for Brandon, we really enjoy this performance. Definitely much more unique and interesting than last week’s, and we love the music as well.

Our first thought tonight is that someone must have told Cat Deeley it was 80s prom night. What is she wearing? But anyway, tonight’s guest judge is Lil C. We’re not excited. We don’t like him.
 
Randi and Evan are dancing first tonight, a jive routine. And we love it. They’re both born entertainers, and Evan actually reminds us a bit of season 2 winner Benji Schwimmer in this performance. Our rating: 9/10
 
Next are Melissa and Ade with a beautiful contemporary routine. We were impressed with them last week, and this week is no disappointment. It’s creative and twisted and weird and we love it! We can’t wait to see what they do next. Our rating: 10/10

The first results show of the season is upon us. It opens with a group performance choreographed by Shane Sparks. It’s kinda dull. Nothing we haven’t already seen in past seasons. Oh well, it’s not a complete waste of time.
 
After some video footage of the first week of rehearsals that’s actually pretty entertaining, it’s time to get down to business.
 
The first three couples are all safe. They are Kayla & Max, Randi & Evan and Jeanine & Phillip. Two of them are no big shock.

Tonight marks the first performance night of the season, and we’re super excited. Joining regular judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy this evening is one of our favorites, Adam Shankman.
 
Jeanine and Phillip kick the season off with a hip hop routine. Oh joy. We don’t see a whole lot of connection between them. Phillip seems to hold his own a bit better than Jeanine does, but we don’t see anything really original and eye-catching. Our rating: 7/10
 
Asuka and Vitolio are next, hoping to nail their Broadway routine. It starts off in a very attention-grabbing way, but kind of falls down a bit by about halfway through. It seems very repetitive, but at least they don’t screw up royally or anything. Our rating: 7/10
