SYTYCD Season 6 - Top 12 Results

By the end of tonight’s episode, we’ll know who’s in the top 10 and on the tour. This is always an exciting episode!

And speaking of exciting, the group performance tonight is the most entertaining we’ve seen yet this season. Which is surprising, considering it was choreographed by Tabitha and Napoloeon and we’re usually not fans. But this is so much fun to watch!

Moving right along, Cat calls the first two couples to the stage. Predictably, Karen and Victor are in the bottom three, and Ashleigh and Jakob are safe and in the top 10.

Two more couples learn their fate- Mollee and Nathan are in the bottom three. Kathryn and Legacy are safe and on the tour.

SYTYCD Season 6 - Top 12

For the first time this season, each couple will be dancing twice tonight. This is also the last week together for the original couples- starting next week, they’ll randomly draw partners each week.

Ellenore and Ryan open the show with a lindy hop. Ryan is much, much more animated than Ellenore is. But having said that, we’re not crazy about this choreography and this is definitely not the best we’ve seen from this couple. Our rating: 7/10

Next are Kathryn and Legacy with a jazz routine. We hate, hate, HATE Kathryn’s outfit, and the music is terrible, and those things combined are so distracting that we end up pretty much hating the entire performance. The timing is good, but it seems to be lacking energy somehow. Legacy is more believable than Kathryn, but overall we’re just not that impressed. Our rating: 6/10

SYTYCD Season 6 - Top 14 Results

At the end of tonight’s show, 14 become 12 and we’re one week away from finding out who’s on this season’s tour. Hopefully the viewers didn’t screw it up again this week like they did last week.

Tonight’s group performance is really obviously choreographed by Wade Robson, and it’s our favorite so far this season. A lot of the choreography this time around has been sub-par, so it’s nice to see something this quirky and creative on a results show.

The first two couples are called to the stage to learn their fate. Ashleigh and Ryan are predictably safe, which makes us happy. Also predictably, Karen and Kevin are the first couple in the bottom three.

SYTYCD Season 6 - Top 14

To start the show tonight, we’re treated to some pictures of the judges as kids. Nigel is throwing up some “gang signs,” Mary hasn’t changed much if at all, and Adam is hilarious. Well, that was fun for a minute.

Now it’s down to business. Ashleigh and Jakob kick things off with a hip hop performance. It reminds us a bit of the “Bleeding Love” piece performed by Chelsea and Mark, and while it’s not quite as good as that one, it is pretty strong. It’s more believable than we expected it to be, and Ashleigh in particular has come a long way since the beginning of the season. Our rating: 8/10

Next are Karen and Kevin with a Broadway number. It’s really cute, and it shows some versatility. Unfortunately, it doesn’t really show quite enough character. We don’t think it’s as bad as the judges make it out to be, but we’re not sure it’ll be a standout tonight either. Our rating: 7/10

SYTYCD Season 6 - Top 16 Results

It’s the first live results show of the season, and it opens with a weird African-themed group performance… to an Eminem song. Uh, what? We’re not that impressed. But it’s Dave Scott choreography, so that explains it.

Not wasting any time, Cat calls the first three couples to the stage. Ellenore and Ryan are immediately put out of their misery and sent to the bottom three. Channing and Victor are safe, as well as Kathryn and Legacy.

A past favorite, Dominic, is outside the studio with the crowd, quizzing them on their knowledge of various dance moves. Most of them don’t have a clue, but it’s fun to watch anyway. Dominic makes for a good host and we’d like to see him do more spots like this on the show.

SYTYCD Season 6 - Top 16

Tonight, the top 16 perform. And for the first time, the viewers get to vote for their favorites and determine the bottom three.

Karen and Kevin start the show with a hustle. It’s a great opener for the show- there’s lots of energy and they have good chemistry. The lifts are good, and Kevin stands out more in this performance than he has in any other so far this season. Our rating: 8/10

Ashleigh and Jakob are next with a jazz piece involving a cane. Usually we’re not fans of props being used, but this goes pretty well. The cane isn’t distracting and the performance quality is good. Our rating: 8/10

Pauline and Peter have the misfortune of drawing quickstep. This is usually bad news for whoever gets it, and we don’t expect anything else this time. However, it’s actually pretty decent. The technique isn’t great, but the performance is great and they connect with the audience very well. The ending is really cute. Our rating: 8/10

SYTYCD Season 6 - Top 18

Welcome to another episode of the show. Tonight, the top 18 perform. Again this week, there’s no results show due to the World Series, so the judges will send two dancers home at the end of tonight’s show. Also, Nigel announces that Billy will be able to return to Vegas next year after leaving because of an illness this season, and Brandon will be allowed to audition again since he was not actually voted into the top 20 this year.

Noelle is back after recovering from her knee injury, and she’s rejoined her partner Russell for a hip hop performance this week. We really could do without the tennis rackets- they’re very distracting. They don’t play off each other much at all, and it comes across like we’re watching two different routines, rather than two dancers performing together. We’re not impressed overall. Our rating: 6/10
