SYTYCD Season 6 - Performance Finale
Hard to believe we’re here already- the performance finale! Tonight is the last chance for the top 6 to compete for our votes. Tomorrow, the new winner is crowned.
Kathryn and Ryan kick things off with a samba. To us, Kathryn looks kind of uncomfortable and all over the place, and that makes this much less fun to watch than we had hoped. The judges disagree, as usual. Our rating: 7/10
Ellenore and Jakob’s Broadway piece really doesn’t look very Broadway to us, but we can’t really blame them for that. Overall this isn’t a big standout for us, but it does come together a bit more by about halfway through it. But we’re just not blown away- the whole thing comes across as a bit cheesy and awkward. Our rating: 7/10
Ashleigh and Russell’s lyrical jazz piece is much different than what we’re used to seeing from Sonya Tayeh, but it’s beautiful. Even though we’re always disappointed with Russell’s solos, he always impresses us with his partner work. And as for Ashleigh, she’s come a really long way in this competition. This is really pretty and peaceful. Our rating: 9/10
Ellenore and Ryan’s jazz is really freakin’ cool. We love the robotic theme, and they’ve captured their characters very well. Of course, the judges disagree, because they almost always dislike the performances we love. Oh well. Our rating: 10/10
Although we’re not big fans of foxtrot, Ashleigh and Jakob handle it well. Having said that, we still think Jakob is outdancing her. Overall though, this is quite good. Our rating: 8/10
Ellenore and Russell’s paso doble is one of the best we’ve seen on the show. The silhouette effect with Ellenore at the beginning is really cool, and despite Nigel’s remarks that Russell’s technique is imperfect, we really enjoy the performance. Our rating: 10/10
Jakob once again far outshines his partner when he performs a contemporary piece with Kathryn. He’s just got such star quality, it’s hard to pay attention to anyone he dances with. There’s a lot of emotion behind this piece, and we always appreciate that. This is a really good performance. Our rating: 9/10
Finally, we get to see married couple Ashleigh and Ryan dance together. Their contemporary piece is one of the most beautiful things we’ve seen on this show this season, and the emotion it carries for them effects the entire audience. Our rating: 10/10
That leaves the final performance of the season to Kathryn and Russell. Unfortunately, it’s a Tabitha and Napoleon hip hop piece. We just don’t care for their choreography, and we’re not entirely sold on this one either. But besides the lack of interesting choreography, we’re surprised to see Kathryn outdance Russell in his own style. She handles this much better than we expected her to. Our rating: 8/10
So, that’s it. Tonight is the last night to vote for your favorites. Tomorrow night, besides revealing the winner, we’ll also see performances from Adam Lambert, Leona Lewis, Mary J. Blige and Jennifer Lopez.
